Owlcrate!

My second Owlcrate arrived about a week ago and I was very pleased with this one!

Lets Begin!

The theme of February was Sci-Fi Love!

Card including information on each item in the box.
(with cute little robot sketches!)

First item listed is the Tote bag.
It is from The Lunar Chronicles series. I love tote bags in general but this one is cute with all the couples from the books. I have not read these, but I always see them on the shelves at stores and want to start them.

Second Item listed is the most adorable Tardis I could own.
This magnetic brooch comes from VectorEngraving on Etsy and they have so many cute products, I just want to buy them all.

The third item is a copy of The Time Machine by H.G. Wells. It comes from a site called Rock Paper Books. They have original works with modernized covers. I'm happy because I know own a copy of The Time Machine and that this site is taking classics and introducing them to a new generation! It also included a discount code for a purchase on the site, so i will be making use of that!

The fourth and final item is the debut Novel of Emily Henry, The Love that Split the World.
Included with the Novel itself there is  a card with a note from the author and sticker Signed by the author herself! This book catches my attention so much, the cover, the title, and the mix of romance and mystery. I'm very excited to start this book!

Overall I was very happy with this months crate. I feel like i got my monies worth from this one.

Happy Reading!

Natasha Trethewey

I just attended a poetry reading at school with guest Poet, Natasha Trethewey.

I went to this for a few reasons 1. It is part of extra credit for my writing communication class. 2. I had 3 free hours in-between classes. 3. Why Not? No harm came out of listening to a poet recite their work.

I had never heard of Natasha before, but after listening to her story and hearing the emotion in her poems, I am very intrigued to read more from her.

Here are a few links to read a little more on her.

Also the GoodReads link has all of her titles.

I may do some editing on this post, I'm on my way to my next class.

Whats your Favorite Genre?

If you click on the link above it has a "Map" that has all the different categories of books you can read.

When you scroll a section of the map it'll show you it'll show the different genres in those categories.
If you clicked on one of those sub categories it'll take you to a page with a description of that category, along with some book suggestions in that category.

I thought this was a cool take on genres. Ill defiantly be using this when looking for new books to read.

from the Pages to the Screen

Everyone loves being able to read the book before the movie or show comes out.

Here's a list from Goodreads and a list from Popsugar of Books being made in to films in 2016

Some of them have already released but you may not have known it was a book before.

I am very excited to see a few of these being made into Movies. Some not so much. it does seem to be the thing to do though, Write a book in hopes it will become a movie.

I always find it fun to see how they cast the characters. Most of the time I don't mind who they've chosen, but there have been times where i totally disagree with who they've chosen.

We can all read the same book but each us us will imagine things differently, see different people, and even given them different voices. I think i can say for many that we all had a different view on how Mr. Christian Grey would look. :-)

Its always nice to see the pages come to life. I'm very happy with how they portrayed Harry Potter and Hunger Games. Who would have thought they would bring a book about Children fighting against each other to life?!

The ones I'm looking forward to seeing this year are:

  • Miss Peregrines Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs
  • Fantastic Beasts and where to Find them by J.K. Rowling
  • Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell
  • The BFG by Roald Dahl
  • The Lost City of Z by David Grann
Which ones you Looking forward to?

Good Reads

I have known about Good Reads for a while now. But have never really used it. I just recently signed up again and I'm Loving it. I have set up a goal for the year. I have challenged my self to read 25 books this year. I have it linked through my facebook and have now downloaded the App. The thing i am excited about on the app is the scanning feature. You can scan the barcode on a book and it will upload it to your account. I like this because i will be somewhere and see a book i like and either take a picture of it or text myself the information but i always seem to lose it. With the app it goes straight to my account. I might actually be able to read all those books i want to read. I also love this site because its your everyday person that is using it, so all the reviews and ratings are accurate (in my opinion). Not just critics reviews. You can't always go by those.
If any of you out there know of other sites or apps similar to this, I'd like to know about them. Do you prefer it over another?

Happy Thursday!
